Celine Dion is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and actress who has become one of the most successful and influential artists in the history of popular music. Born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada, Dion was the youngest of 14 children in a musical family. Her parents, Adhemar and Therese Dion, were both musicians, and they encouraged their children to pursue their musical talents from a young age. Dion began singing at the age of five, and by the time she was a teenager, she was already performing in local clubs and festivals. In 1981, she recorded her first song, "Ce n'etait qu'un reve" ("It Was Only a Dream"), which was written by her mother and her brother Jacques. The song was a hit in Quebec, and it helped to launch Dion's career as a professional singer. In 1983, Dion released her first album, "La voix du bon Dieu" ("The Voice of God"), which was a collection of French-language songs. The album was a commercial success, and it helped to establish Dion as a rising star in the Canadian music scene. Over the next few years, Dion released several more albums, including "Chants et contes de Noel" ("Christmas Songs and Tales") and "Les chemins de ma maison" ("The Paths of My House"). In 1988, Dion represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Ne partez pas sans moi" ("Don't Leave Without Me"). She won the contest, and the victory helped to raise her profile in Europe and around the world. In the years that followed, Dion continued to release successful albums and singles, including "Unison" (1990), "The Colour of My Love" (1993), and "Falling into You" (1996). One of the highlights of Dion's career came in 1997, when she recorded the theme song for the blockbuster movie "Titanic." The song, "My Heart Will Go On," became a massive hit, and it won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. The success of the song helped to propel the "Titanic" soundtrack to become one of the best-selling albums of all time. Over the years, Dion has won numerous awards and accolades for her music. She has won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for "Falling into You" and Record of the Year for "My Heart Will Go On." She has also won 20 Juno Awards, which are the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards. In 2004, she was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In addition to her music career, Dion has also acted in several movies and television shows. She made her film debut in the 1990 movie "Des fleurs sur la neige" ("Flowers in the Snow"), and she has also appeared in movies such as "The Magic Sword: Quest for Camelot" (1998) and "Muppets Most Wanted" (2014). She has also appeared on television shows such as "Touched by an Angel" and "Ally McBeal." Despite her success, Dion has faced several challenges in her personal life. In 1994, she married her manager, Rene Angelil, who was 26 years her senior. The couple had three children together, but they also faced health problems. In 1999, Angelil was diagnosed with throat cancer, and he underwent several surgeries and treatments over the years. In 2016, he passed away at the age of 73. In 2018, Dion announced that she would be ending her long-running residency at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The residency, which began in 2003, had become one of the most successful and lucrative shows in the history of Las Vegas entertainment.
