Born on October 11, 1973, in Lyon, France, Morlot grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a cellist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Morlot was exposed to classical music and began playing the violin at the age of seven. Morlot's passion for music continued to grow, and he went on to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. He also studied conducting with renowned conductors such as Seiji Ozawa and Sir Colin Davis. Morlot's career as a conductor began in 2000 when he was appointed assistant conductor of the Orchestre National de Lyon. He quickly gained recognition for his talent and was appointed associate conductor of the orchestra in 2002. In 2004, Morlot was appointed music director of the Seattle Symphony, a position he held until 2019. During his tenure with the Seattle Symphony, Morlot led the orchestra to new heights. He was praised for his innovative programming and his ability to connect with audiences. He also collaborated with many renowned soloists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Lang Lang, and Joshua Bell. One of Morlot's most notable performances with the Seattle Symphony was in 2011 when he conducted the world premiere of John Luther Adams' "Become Ocean."
