Quink Vocal Ensemble is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique and exquisite performances for over 40 years. The ensemble was founded in 1978 by five young singers who were studying at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. The founding members were Harry van Berne (tenor), Kees Jan de Koning (baritone), Marjon Strijk (soprano), Caroline Stam (alto), and Barend Schuurman (bass). The name "Quink" was chosen by the ensemble as a reference to the five lines of a musical staff, with "quint" meaning "fifth" in Latin. The ensemble's repertoire consists mainly of Renaissance and Baroque music, but they also perform contemporary works and folk songs from various countries. Quink Vocal Ensemble has become known for their impeccable blend, precise intonation, and expressive interpretations. Their performances are characterized by a sense of intimacy and warmth, as if the singers are communicating directly with each member of the audience. Over the years, Quink Vocal Ensemble has performed in numerous prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Berliner Philharmonie, and the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico. They have also collaborated with many renowned musicians and ensembles, such as the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and the Hilliard Ensemble. One of the highlights of Quink Vocal Ensemble's career was their performance at the 1982 Holland Festival, where they received critical acclaim for their interpretation of Monteverdi's "Madrigals of Love and War". The ensemble has also won several awards, including the Edison Classical Music Award in 1991 for their recording of Bach's "Motets". Throughout their long and illustrious career, Quink Vocal Ensemble has remained true to their original vision of creating music that is both beautiful and meaningful.
