Role:EnsembleGenre:ChoralConcordia University Wind Symphony is a classical music ensemble based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The ensemble was founded in 1976 by Dr. Patrick J. Boyle, who served as its conductor until 2015. The ensemble is made up of approximately 50 musicians, including students, faculty, and community members. The Concordia University Wind Symphony has a rich history of performances and awards. The ensemble has performed at numerous venues throughout Canada and the United States, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Carnegie Hall in New York City. The ensemble has also performed at several international music festivals, including the International Festival of Wind Orchestras in Valencia, Spain, and the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in Singapore. One of the highlights of the Concordia University Wind Symphony's history was its performance at the 1996 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. The Midwest Clinic is one of the largest and most prestigious music conferences in the world, and the Concordia University Wind Symphony was one of only a handful of ensembles selected to perform at the conference that year. The ensemble's performance was well-received by the audience and critics alike, and it helped to establish the ensemble's reputation as one of the finest wind ensembles in North America. The Concordia University Wind Symphony has also been recognized for its excellence in performance and musicianship. The ensemble has won numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Flag of Honor in 1999. The Sudler Flag of Honor is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a wind ensemble in the United States, and the Concordia University Wind Symphony was the first Canadian ensemble to receive this prestigious award. In addition to its performances and awards, the Concordia University Wind Symphony is also committed to promoting new music and supporting emerging composers. The ensemble has commissioned and premiered numerous works by Canadian and international composers, including John Estacio, Kevin Lau, and David Maslanka. The ensemble has also collaborated with several renowned soloists and conductors, including clarinetist James Campbell and conductor Eugene Migliaro Corporon. The Concordia University Wind Symphony has undergone several changes in leadership over the years. In 2015, Dr. Patrick J. Boyle retired as conductor of the ensemble, and was succeeded by Dr. Joel Clifft. Under Dr. Clifft's leadership, the ensemble has continued to thrive and expand its repertoire, performing a wide range of works from classical to contemporary music. Today, the Concordia University Wind Symphony remains one of the premier wind ensembles in Canada and North America. The ensemble's commitment to excellence in performance, musicianship, and new music has earned it a reputation as a leader in the wind ensemble community. With a talented and dedicated group of musicians, the Concordia University Wind Symphony is poised to continue its legacy of excellence for many years to come.More....
