He later attended the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in composition. During his time at the Manhattan School of Music, Bisbee studied under the tutelage of renowned composers such as John Corigliano and David Diamond. After completing his studies, Bisbee began his career as a composer, and his works were quickly recognized for their unique style and innovative approach. His early compositions were heavily influenced by the works of Stravinsky, Bartok, and Shostakovich, but he soon developed his own distinctive style, characterized by complex rhythms, unconventional harmonies, and a bold use of orchestration. One of Bisbee's most notable works is his Symphony No. 1, which was premiered by the New York Philharmonic in 1976. The symphony is a complex and challenging work, featuring intricate rhythms and unconventional harmonies. It was well-received by critics and established Bisbee as a major figure in the world of classical music. Bisbee's other notable works include his Piano Concerto, which was premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1982, and his String Quartet No. 1, which was premiered by the Juilliard String Quartet in 1987. Both works showcase Bisbee's unique style and innovative approach to composition. Throughout his career, Bisbee received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1985, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, which allowed him to travel to Europe and study the works of contemporary composers. He was also a recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Music, and his works were performed by major orchestras and ensembles around the world.
