Born on May 12, 1925, in Paris, France, Adele was the daughter of a French mother and a Belgian father. Her father was a pianist, and her mother was a singer, which meant that Adele was exposed to music from a very young age. Adele's parents recognized her musical talent early on and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking piano lessons at the age of five and quickly showed a natural aptitude for the instrument. By the time she was a teenager, Adele was already performing in public, and her talent was widely recognized. In 1943, Adele enrolled at the Paris Conservatory, where she studied under the renowned pianist and composer, Nadia Boulanger. Boulanger was impressed by Adele's talent and took her under her wing, providing her with guidance and support throughout her studies. Adele's talent continued to flourish, and she began to make a name for herself in the world of classical music. In 1947, she won first prize in the prestigious Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition, which helped to launch her career. Over the next few years, Adele performed extensively throughout Europe, earning critical acclaim for her virtuosity and musicality. She also began to record her performances, and her recordings quickly became popular with classical music enthusiasts. In 1955, Adele made her debut in the United States, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The performance was a huge success, and Adele quickly became a favorite with American audiences. She went on to perform at many of the country's most prestigious concert halls, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Throughout her career, Adele was known for her technical brilliance and her ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music she played. She was particularly renowned for her interpretations of the works of Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart, and her recordings of these composers' works remain popular to this day. In addition to her performances, Adele was also a respected teacher, and she taught at several prestigious music schools throughout her career. Her students included many talented young pianists who went on to have successful careers in their own right. Adele's contributions to the world of classical music were widely recognized, and she received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1962, she was awarded the Legion of Honor, one of France's highest honors, for her contributions to the arts. She was also awarded the Grand Prix du Disque, the highest honor for classical music recordings in France, several times throughout her career. Despite her success, Adele remained humble and dedicated to her craft throughout her life. She continued to perform and teach until her death on June 23, 1998, at the age of 73.
