Duo Egri & Pertis is a classical music ensemble consisting of Hungarian musicians, violinist Eszter Egri and pianist Gergely Pertis. The duo was founded in 2008 and has since become one of the most renowned chamber music ensembles in Hungary. Eszter Egri was born in Budapest in 1983 and began playing the violin at the age of six. She studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, Germany. She has won numerous awards and competitions, including the International Violin Competition in Kloster Schöntal, Germany, and the International Violin Competition in Szeged, Hungary. Gergely Pertis was born in Budapest in 1979 and started playing the piano at the age of five. He also studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. He has won several awards and competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Rome, Italy, and the International Piano Competition in Porto, Portugal. The duo's repertoire includes works by classical composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann, as well as contemporary composers such as György Kurtág and Péter Eötvös. They have performed in numerous concerts and festivals in Hungary and abroad, including the Budapest Spring Festival, the International Chamber Music Festival in Utrecht, the Festival de Música de Canarias in Spain, and the Festival Internacional de Música de Cámara de Aguascalientes in Mexico. One of the highlights of Duo Egri & Pertis' career was their performance at the 2010 International Chamber Music Festival in Utrecht, where they received critical acclaim for their interpretation of Schumann's Violin Sonata No. 1 in A minor. The Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant praised their "intense and passionate playing" and their "perfectly matched musicality." In 2012, the duo released their debut album, featuring works by Brahms and Schumann. The album received positive reviews from critics, with the German magazine Fono Forum describing their playing as "sensitive and nuanced." Duo Egri & Pertis has also collaborated with other musicians and ensembles, including the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Kodály Quartet. In 2014, they performed with the renowned cellist Miklós Perényi at the Budapest Spring Festival, where they received a standing ovation for their performance of Beethoven's Piano Trio No. 7 in B-flat major. In addition to their performances, Duo Egri & Pertis are also dedicated to teaching and mentoring young musicians. They have given masterclasses and workshops at several music schools and conservatories in Hungary and abroad. The duo has received several awards and honors for their contributions to classical music. In 2013, they were awarded the Artisjus Prize, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of music. They were also named Artists of the Year by the Hungarian Radio in 2014. Duo Egri & Pertis continues to perform and record, and their passion for classical music has inspired audiences around the world. Their dedication to their craft and their commitment to mentoring the next generation of musicians make them a valuable asset to the classical music community.
