Period:RenaissanceBaroqueRomanticModernGenre:ChamberOrchestralPhiladelphia Brass is a classical music ensemble that has been entertaining audiences with their unique sound for over 30 years. The group was founded in 1988 by five musicians who shared a passion for brass music and a desire to create something new and exciting. The founding members of Philadelphia Brass were Anthony Cecere (trumpet), Scott Mendoker (tuba), Robert Gale (trombone), David Bilger (trumpet), and Jeffrey Curnow (horn). All five musicians were accomplished performers in their own right, having played with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world. The group quickly gained a reputation for their innovative arrangements and dynamic performances. They were known for their ability to blend traditional brass music with contemporary styles, creating a sound that was both familiar and fresh. Over the years, Philadelphia Brass has undergone some changes in membership, but the group has always maintained its commitment to excellence. Today, the ensemble is made up of six members: Anthony Cecere (trumpet), Jeffrey Curnow (horn), Eric Carlson (trombone), Matthew Vaughn (trombone), Nitzan Haroz (trombone), and Scott Mendoker (tuba). One of the highlights of Philadelphia Brass's career was their performance at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. The group was selected to perform at the opening ceremonies, where they played a rousing rendition of "Summon the Heroes" by John Williams. The performance was seen by millions of people around the world and helped to cement Philadelphia Brass's reputation as one of the premier brass ensembles in the world. Philadelphia Brass has also been recognized for their recordings, which have received critical acclaim and numerous awards. Their album "A Festival of Carols in Brass" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1995, and their album "Brass Surround" won the Grammy Award for Best Surround Sound Album in 2006. In addition to their recordings and performances, Philadelphia Brass is also committed to education and outreach. The group has worked with young musicians through master classes and workshops, and they have also performed in schools and community centers to introduce people to the world of brass music. Overall, Philadelphia Brass has had a long and successful career, and they continue to inspire audiences with their unique sound and innovative approach to brass music. Their commitment to excellence and their dedication to education and outreach have made them one of the most respected ensembles in the world of classical music.More....
