Johann Christoph Pezel was a German composer and musician who lived during the Baroque period. He was born on September 4, 1639, in the town of Friedberg, which is located in the state of Hesse in Germany. Pezel was the son of a musician, and he grew up in a family that was deeply involved in music. His father, Johann Pezel, was a trumpeter and a member of the town band, and he taught his son to play the trumpet at a young age. He remained in this position for the rest of his life, and he composed a large number of works for the church choir and orchestra.
