Malena Ernman is a Swedish opera singer, born on November 4, 1970, in Uppsala, Sweden. She grew up in Sandviken, a small town in central Sweden, where she began singing at a young age. Her parents were both musicians, and her mother was a music teacher, which helped foster her love for music. Ernman began her formal music education at the University College of Opera in Stockholm, where she studied under the tutelage of Kerstin Meyer and Anita Soldh. She made her professional debut in 1998 at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, where she performed the role of Cherubino in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." Ernman quickly gained recognition for her powerful voice and dynamic stage presence. She went on to perform in numerous operas and concerts throughout Europe, including at the Royal Opera House in London, the Vienna State Opera, and the Salzburg Festival. One of Ernman's most notable performances was in the title role of Bizet's "Carmen" at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2005. Her portrayal of the fiery and passionate Carmen was praised by critics and audiences alike, and it cemented her reputation as one of the most talented opera singers of her generation. Ernman has also been recognized for her work in contemporary music. In 2009, she represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "La Voix," which she co-wrote with Fredrik Kempe. The song, which blended elements of opera and pop music, was a hit with audiences and helped to broaden Ernman's fan base. In addition to her work as a performer, Ernman has also been an advocate for environmental causes. She has spoken out about the need for action on climate change and has been involved in various campaigns to raise awareness about the issue. Ernman has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2007, she was awarded the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's Litteris et Artibus medal for her contributions to the arts. She has also been awarded the Swedish government's prestigious Litteris et Artibus medal and the Order of the Polar Star. Despite her many accomplishments, Ernman remains humble and dedicated to her craft.
