Ragna Schirmer is a renowned classical pianist from Germany, known for her exceptional talent and musicality. She was born on August 23, 1972, in Lübeck, Germany, to a family of musicians. Her father was a conductor, and her mother was a pianist, which inspired her to pursue a career in music. Schirmer began playing the piano at the age of four and showed remarkable talent from an early age. She received her first piano lessons from her mother and later studied with renowned pianists such as Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, András Schiff, and Bruno Leonardo Gelber. In 1992, Schirmer won the first prize at the International Bach Competition in Leipzig, which marked the beginning of her successful career as a concert pianist. She went on to win several other prestigious awards, including the German Music Competition in 1994 and the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg in 1996. Schirmer has performed in some of the world's most renowned concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Konzerthaus Vienna, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. She has collaborated with many leading orchestras, such as the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. One of Schirmer's most notable performances was her interpretation of Bach's Goldberg Variations, which she recorded in 2001. The recording received critical acclaim and established Schirmer as one of the leading interpreters of Bach's music. She has also recorded works by other composers, such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, and Brahms. Schirmer is known for her musicality and technical proficiency, which she combines with a deep understanding of the composers' intentions.
