George Vosburgh is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on August 26, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Vosburgh grew up in a musical family, and his father was a trumpet player in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. This early exposure to music sparked his interest in the trumpet, and he began playing at a young age. Vosburgh attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where he studied under William Vacchiano, the principal trumpet player of the New York Philharmonic. He then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. Vosburgh continued his studies at the University of Illinois, where he earned his Master of Music degree. After completing his studies, Vosburgh began his professional career as a trumpet player. He joined the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 1979 as the principal trumpet player, a position he held for over 36 years. During his time with the orchestra, Vosburgh performed in numerous concerts and recordings, including the Grammy Award-winning recording of Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5. In addition to his work with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Vosburgh has also performed with other orchestras around the world. He has been a guest soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra, among others. Vosburgh has also performed as a soloist with numerous chamber ensembles, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Brass and the Canadian Brass. Vosburgh's talent and dedication to his craft have earned him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1992, he was awarded the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's "Excellence in Performance" award. He has also been awarded the "Distinguished Alumni Award" from the University of Illinois and the "Distinguished Service Award" from the International Trumpet Guild. One of the highlights of Vosburgh's career was his performance at the 2009 Inauguration of President Barack Obama. He was one of four trumpet players who performed during the ceremony, and his performance was widely praised for its beauty and precision. Vosburgh has also been active in music education throughout his career. He has taught at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, and he has given masterclasses and clinics at universities and music schools around the world. Vosburgh has also served as the president of the International Trumpet Guild and has been a member of the board of directors for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as a trumpet player, Vosburgh is also an accomplished conductor. He has conducted numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Brass and the River City Brass Band. Vosburgh has also been a guest conductor for the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
