The orchestra was founded in 1973 and has since become one of the most renowned orchestras in Poland and Europe. The orchestra was named after the famous Polish pianist Artur Rubinstein, who was born in Łódź in 1887. Rubinstein was one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century and was known for his virtuosity and musicality. He was a frequent performer in Poland and around the world, and his legacy has inspired many musicians and music lovers. The Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra was founded by the Łódź Philharmonic Society, which had been established in 1915. The society had a long tradition of promoting classical music in Łódź and had previously operated a symphony orchestra. However, in the 1960s, the orchestra had fallen into decline, and the society decided to create a new orchestra that would be more modern and dynamic. The new orchestra was led by conductor Jerzy Katlewicz, who had previously worked with the Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra. Katlewicz was a talented conductor and had a vision for the new orchestra that would make it stand out from other orchestras in Poland. He wanted the orchestra to be versatile and able to perform a wide range of music, from classical to contemporary. The Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances and innovative programming. The orchestra's first concert was held in 1974, and it was an immediate success. The orchestra performed works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky, among others, and received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Over the years, the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra has performed with many renowned soloists and conductors, including Martha Argerich, Krystian Zimerman, and Zubin Mehta. The orchestra has also collaborated with other arts organizations, such as the Łódź Film School and the Łódź Art Museum, to create unique and interdisciplinary performances. One of the highlights of the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra's history was its performance at the 1980 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. The orchestra accompanied the finalists of the competition, including the eventual winner, Dang Thai Son. The performance was broadcast live on television and was seen by millions of people around the world. The Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1993, the orchestra was awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland for its contributions to Polish culture. In 2003, the orchestra was named the Cultural Ambassador of Łódź, and in 2013, it was awarded the Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. In addition to its performances in Poland, the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra has toured extensively around the world. The orchestra has performed in many prestigious venues, such as the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. The orchestra has also performed at many international music festivals, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the BBC Proms. Today, the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra continues to be one of the leading orchestras in Poland and Europe.More....
