Born on August 10, 1986, in Vilnius, Lithuania, she grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. Čiurlionis School of Art in Vilnius and later at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Gražinytė-Tyla began her career as a conductor in 2007, when she was appointed as an assistant conductor at the Salzburg Festival. She went on to work as an assistant conductor at the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.
