Felicja Blumental was a renowned classical music artist who was born on December 28, 1908, in Warsaw, Poland. She was born into a family of musicians, and her father was a well-known violinist. Felicja showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. She received her formal music education at the Warsaw Conservatory, where she studied under the tutelage of some of the most prominent musicians of the time. In 1938, Felicja moved to Brazil, where she began her career as a concert pianist. She quickly gained recognition for her exceptional talent and became a sought-after performer in Brazil and throughout South America. In 1942, she made her debut in the United States, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Her performance was met with critical acclaim, and she quickly became a favorite among American audiences. Throughout her career, Felicja performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. She also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors of the time, including Sir Adrian Boult, Zubin Mehta, and Sir Malcolm Sargent. One of the highlights of Felicja's career was her performance of the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1955. Her interpretation of the piece was widely praised, and it remains one of the most memorable performances of her career. She also recorded the piece with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which was released on the Decca label. Felicja was also a prolific recording artist, and she recorded over 50 albums throughout her career. Her recordings were highly regarded for their technical precision and emotional depth, and they continue to be celebrated by classical music enthusiasts today. Some of her most notable recordings include the complete piano works of Chopin, the piano concertos of Mozart, and the piano sonatas of Beethoven. In 1967, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, and in 1978, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire for her services to music. She was also awarded the Gold Medal of the City of Warsaw and the Medal of the City of Tel Aviv. Felicja Blumental passed away on December 31, 1991, at the age of 83. Her legacy as a performer, recording artist, and music educator continues to inspire classical music enthusiasts around the world.
