Birth:1985 in Leeuwarden, The NetherlandsSimone Lamsma is a Dutch violinist who has established herself as one of the leading classical musicians of her generation. Born in 1985 in Leiden, Netherlands, Lamsma began playing the violin at the age of five. She showed exceptional talent from an early age and was soon performing in public concerts. Lamsma studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Ilya Grubert and later at the Juilliard School in New York with Itzhak Perlman. She also received guidance from renowned violinists such as Pinchas Zukerman and Maxim Vengerov. In 2003, Lamsma won the prestigious Dutch National Violin Competition, which launched her career as a soloist. She has since performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. One of Lamsma's most notable performances was her debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2005, where she played the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto under the baton of Jaap van Zweden. The performance was widely praised, and Lamsma was hailed as a rising star in the classical music world. Lamsma has also been recognized for her recordings. In 2011, she released a critically acclaimed album of works by Prokofiev, which was awarded the Edison Classical Music Award. She has also recorded works by Shostakovich, Szymanowski, and Ravel. In addition to her solo career, Lamsma is also a dedicated chamber musician. She has performed with many renowned musicians, including pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and cellist Truls Mørk.
