Malmö Brass Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1991 in Malmö, Sweden. The ensemble is made up of five members who are all accomplished brass musicians. The members of the ensemble are: Urban Agnas (trumpet), Anders Nyqvist (trumpet), Jonas Bylund (horn), Jan Lundgren (trombone), and Lars Karlin (tuba). The founding of Malmö Brass Ensemble was the result of a desire to create a high-quality brass ensemble that could perform a wide range of music. The members of the ensemble had all played together in various other groups and had a shared passion for brass music. They decided to form their own ensemble and began rehearsing together regularly. One of the highlights of Malmö Brass Ensemble's early career was their performance at the 1993 International Brass Festival in Toulon, France. The ensemble received critical acclaim for their performance and were invited to perform at several other festivals and concerts throughout Europe. Over the years, Malmö Brass Ensemble has become known for their innovative and eclectic programming. They have performed a wide range of music, from classical works to jazz and pop arrangements. The ensemble has also commissioned several new works from contemporary composers, including Jan Sandström and Anders Hillborg. In 2001, Malmö Brass Ensemble released their first album, "Brass in the Spirit of Christmas." The album features a mix of traditional Christmas carols and new arrangements of popular holiday songs. The album was well-received and helped to establish the ensemble as one of the premier brass ensembles in Europe. In 2005, Malmö Brass Ensemble was awarded the prestigious Swedish Grammy Award for their album "Brass in the Spirit of Christmas II." The album features a mix of traditional and contemporary Christmas music, including several new arrangements by members of the ensemble. The award helped to raise the profile of the ensemble and led to several high-profile performances and collaborations. One of the most notable collaborations in Malmö Brass Ensemble's career was their performance with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2008. The ensemble performed Jan Sandström's "Echoes of Eternity" with the orchestra, receiving critical acclaim for their performance. In addition to their performances and recordings, Malmö Brass Ensemble is also committed to music education. The ensemble regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses for young brass musicians, helping to inspire the next generation of musicians. Today, Malmö Brass Ensemble continues to perform and record music, delighting audiences with their innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The ensemble has become a beloved fixture in the classical music world, and their contributions to the brass repertoire will be remembered for years to come.
