Role:PerformerPeriod:RomanticContemporaryGenre:ChoralOperaVocalJyrki Korhonen is a Finnish classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a conductor, pianist, and composer. He was born on May 5, 1972, in Helsinki, Finland, to a family of musicians. His father was a pianist, and his mother was a singer, so it was only natural that Jyrki would follow in their footsteps. Jyrki began his musical education at a young age, studying piano and music theory with his father. He showed great promise as a pianist, and by the age of 10, he was already performing in public. He continued his studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he studied piano with Liisa Pohjola and composition with Eero Hämeenniemi. After completing his studies at the Sibelius Academy, Jyrki went on to study conducting at the Juilliard School in New York City. There, he studied with James Levine, Alan Gilbert, and David Robertson, among others. He also had the opportunity to work with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Jyrki's career as a conductor began to take off in the early 2000s. He was appointed as the principal conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2002, a position he held until 2007. During his tenure, he led the orchestra in a number of critically acclaimed performances, including a series of concerts featuring the music of Jean Sibelius. In 2007, Jyrki was appointed as the music director of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held until 2013. During his time with the orchestra, he led them in a number of successful tours, including a tour of Japan in 2010. He also commissioned and premiered a number of new works by Finnish composers, including Eero Hämeenniemi and Magnus Lindberg. In addition to his work as a conductor, Jyrki is also an accomplished pianist and composer. He has performed as a soloist with a number of orchestras, including the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also released several albums of his own compositions, including "Piano Concerto No. 1" and "Symphony No. 1." Jyrki has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2004, he was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal, one of Finland's highest honors for cultural achievement. In 2008, he was awarded the Sibelius Medal by the Sibelius Society of Finland, in recognition of his contributions to the music of Jean Sibelius. He has also been awarded the Finnish State Prize for Music and the Nordic Council Music Prize. Despite his many accomplishments, Jyrki remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and conduct around the world, and he is always looking for new ways to push the boundaries of classical music. His passion for music is infectious, and he has inspired countless musicians and music lovers around the world.More....
