Artist Info
Period:RomanticGenre:OperaHerold Kraus was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 15, 1955, in Vienna, Austria. He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Herold showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Herold's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied with several renowned pianists, including Alfred Brendel and Martha Argerich. Herold's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition as a prodigy. In 1972, Herold made his debut as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21. The performance was a huge success, and Herold received critical acclaim for his virtuosity and musicality. This performance marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career for Herold. Over the next few years, Herold continued to perform with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also performed at major music festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival. In 1980, Herold won the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, which cemented his reputation as one of the world's leading pianists. The competition was a grueling test of skill and endurance, and Herold's victory was a testament to his exceptional talent and hard work. Throughout his career, Herold was known for his impeccable technique, musical sensitivity, and deep understanding of the composers he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, and his recordings of their music remain some of the most highly regarded in the classical music canon. In addition to his solo performances, Herold was also a sought-after chamber musician. He frequently collaborated with other musicians, including violinist Itzhak Perlman and cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and his chamber music performances were always highly anticipated events. Despite his success, Herold remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to practice for hours every day, always striving to improve his technique and deepen his understanding of the music he played. He was also a devoted teacher, and many of his students went on to become successful musicians in their own right. Tragically, Herold's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 1995. He underwent several rounds of treatment, but his health continued to deteriorate, and he passed away on October 22, 1997, at the age of 42. Herold's death was a great loss to the classical music world, but his legacy lives on through his recordings and the countless musicians he inspired. He was a true master of his craft, and his contributions to the world of classical music will be remembered for generations to come.More....
