John Carmen Rossi was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Rossi showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Rossi's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly developed a passion for classical music. By the age of ten, Rossi had already performed in several concerts and had won several awards for his piano playing. In 1997, Rossi was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he continued his musical education under the guidance of renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Rossi won several competitions and performed in numerous concerts, including a solo recital at Carnegie Hall. After graduating from Juilliard, Rossi went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. While at Curtis, Rossi studied with renowned pianist Gary Graffman and performed in several concerts, including a solo recital at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. In 2008, Rossi won first prize in the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. His performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor impressed the judges and earned him a standing ovation from the audience. Following his victory at the Van Cliburn Competition, Rossi's career took off. He began performing in major concert halls around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House. He also made several recordings, including a critically acclaimed album of Chopin's piano works. In 2012, Rossi was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians and provides financial support to help them further their careers. The grant allowed Rossi to continue performing and recording, and he went on to release several more albums, including a recording of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas. Throughout his career, Rossi has been praised for his technical skill, musicality, and emotional depth. He is known for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff, and has been compared to some of the greatest pianists of all time. In addition to his performing career, Rossi is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at several universities and conservatories, including the Juilliard School and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
