Artist Info
Musica Saeculorum is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2004 by the American conductor and harpsichordist, Kenneth Weiss. The ensemble is known for its performances of Baroque and early Classical music, and has gained a reputation for its historically informed interpretations of these works. The founding of Musica Saeculorum was inspired by Weiss's desire to create an ensemble that would explore the rich and diverse repertoire of early music. He assembled a group of musicians who shared his passion for this music, and together they began to rehearse and perform. The ensemble's main members are a group of highly skilled instrumentalists and vocalists, many of whom are specialists in early music. These include violinists Cynthia Roberts and Robert Mealy, cellist Phoebe Carrai, flutist Sandra Miller, and soprano Julianne Baird, among others. Over the years, Musica Saeculorum has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, the Boston Early Music Festival, and the Utrecht Early Music Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the leading figures in early music, including the conductor and harpsichordist William Christie and the violinist and conductor Jordi Savall. One of the highlights of Musica Saeculorum's career was its performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion at the Lincoln Center in 2010. This performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and musical sensitivity, and was hailed as a landmark event in the history of early music performance. In addition to its live performances, Musica Saeculorum has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. These include a recording of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, which was praised for its clarity and precision, and a recording of Handel's Messiah, which was hailed as a revelatory interpretation of this beloved work. Musica Saeculorum has received numerous awards and accolades for its performances and recordings. These include a Grammy nomination for its recording of Bach's St. Matthew Passion, and a Diapason d'Or award for its recording of Handel's Messiah. Despite its many achievements, Musica Saeculorum remains committed to its mission of exploring and celebrating the rich and diverse repertoire of early music. The ensemble continues to perform and record, and its members remain dedicated to bringing this music to new audiences around the world.More....
