Rufus Choi is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with his virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born in Seoul, South Korea in 1979, Choi showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of five. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music, enrolling him in the prestigious Yewon School of Arts in Seoul. Choi's talent quickly became apparent, and he began winning competitions and awards at a young age. In 1993, he won first prize in the Korea Music Association Competition, and in 1995, he won the Grand Prize at the Ewha-Kyunghyang Competition. These early successes paved the way for Choi to continue his studies at the Seoul National University of Arts, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. After completing his studies in South Korea, Choi moved to the United States to further his musical education. He enrolled in the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he studied with renowned pianist Leon Fleisher. Under Fleisher's guidance, Choi honed his technique and developed a deeper understanding of the music he was playing. Choi's talent and hard work paid off in 2003, when he won first prize in the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. This prestigious competition attracts some of the world's most talented young pianists, and Choi's victory was a testament to his skill and dedication. The win also helped to launch Choi's international career, as he began receiving invitations to perform in major concert halls around the world. Since then, Choi has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. He has also given recitals in major concert halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Choi's repertoire is wide-ranging, encompassing works by composers from Bach to contemporary composers.
