Ludovic Tézier is a French baritone who has established himself as one of the leading opera singers of his generation. Born on October 19, 1968, in Lyon, France, Tézier grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical singer. Tézier began his musical training at a young age, studying piano and singing in choirs. He later attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, where he studied voice with Jean-Claude Orliac. Tézier made his professional debut in 1992, singing the role of Silvio in Pagliacci at the Opéra de Lyon. He quickly gained recognition for his rich, warm voice and his dramatic intensity. He went on to perform at many of the world's leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Paris Opera, and La Scala. One of Tézier's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Verdi's Rigoletto at the Metropolitan Opera in 2013. His performance was praised for its emotional depth and vocal power. He also received critical acclaim for his performances in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Puccini's Tosca, and Bizet's Carmen. Tézier has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the Victoires de la Musique Classique in 2008 and 2012. He was also awarded the title of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 2011. In addition to his work in opera, Tézier is also a sought-after concert performer. He has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also recorded several albums, including a collection of French art songs and a recording of Verdi's Requiem. Tézier is known for his dedication to his craft and his commitment to bringing new life to classic works. He has worked with many of the world's leading conductors and directors, including James Levine, Riccardo Muti, and Robert Carsen. He is also known for his collaborations with contemporary composers, including Kaija Saariaho and Philippe Boesmans. Despite his success, Tézier remains humble and focused on his art. He continues to perform regularly and to explore new repertoire. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest baritones of his generation and a true ambassador for the art of opera.
