Orquesta Sinfonica de Xalapa (OSX) is a classical music ensemble based in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. The orchestra was founded in 1929 by composer and conductor Carlos Chávez, who served as its first music director. Since then, the orchestra has become one of the most important cultural institutions in Mexico and has gained international recognition for its high-quality performances. The orchestra's main members include its current music director, Lanfranco Marcelletti Jr., who has been with the orchestra since 2014. Marcelletti Jr. is an Italian conductor who has worked with many prestigious orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Other important members of the orchestra include concertmaster Juan Carlos Laguna, principal cellist Carlos Prieto, and principal clarinetist Luis Humberto Ramos. Throughout its history, the orchestra has performed a wide range of classical music repertoire, including works by Mexican composers such as Carlos Chávez, Silvestre Revueltas, and Arturo Márquez, as well as works by European composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms. The orchestra has also collaborated with many renowned soloists and conductors, including Plácido Domingo, Yo-Yo Ma, and Zubin Mehta. One of the highlights of the orchestra's history was its performance at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. The orchestra was chosen to perform at the opening ceremony of the games, which was attended by thousands of people from around the world.
