Berta Rojas is a renowned classical guitarist from Paraguay, known for her virtuosic playing and passionate performances. She was born on September 7, 1966, in Asunción, the capital city of Paraguay. Rojas grew up in a musical family, with her father being a guitarist and her mother a singer. She began playing the guitar at the age of seven, and by the time she was 12, she was already performing in public. Rojas studied music at the National Conservatory of Music in Asunción, where she was mentored by the legendary Paraguayan guitarist and composer Agustín Barrios. She also studied with other renowned guitarists, including Abel Carlevaro, Manuel Barrueco, and David Russell. Rojas' dedication to her craft paid off, and she quickly gained recognition as one of the most talented guitarists of her generation. In 1988, Rojas won the prestigious Francisco Salazar International Guitar Competition in Colombia, which marked the beginning of her international career. She went on to perform in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Rojas has also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. Rojas has released several critically acclaimed albums, including "Intimate Barrios," which features her interpretations of the works of Agustín Barrios, and "Día y Medio," which showcases her own compositions.
