He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Anton showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Anton's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied with renowned pianists in Vienna. At the age of 12, Anton made his debut as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. Anton's talent was quickly recognized, and he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Vienna Conservatory. He continued to excel in his studies and won several awards and competitions. In 1944, Anton was drafted into the German army and was sent to fight on the Eastern Front. He was captured by the Soviet army and spent the next two years in a prisoner-of-war camp. After the war, Anton returned to Vienna and resumed his studies at the conservatory. He graduated with honors in 1949 and began his career as a concert pianist. Anton quickly gained a reputation as a virtuoso pianist and was invited to perform with orchestras around the world. One of Anton's most memorable performances was in 1955 when he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, also known as the "Emperor" concerto, with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. The performance was a huge success, and Anton received a standing ovation from the audience. Anton continued to perform and record throughout his career, and he was known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. He also performed and recorded works by contemporary composers, including Igor Stravinsky and Arnold Schoenberg. In addition to his career as a concert pianist, Anton was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Vienna Conservatory and later at the Salzburg Mozarteum. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as pianists. Anton received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art and the Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria. He was also awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Legion of Honor by the French government. Anton Rosner passed away on January 1, 2010, at the age of 83.
