Born in Sweden in 1958, Bohlin grew up in a musical family and began singing in choirs at a young age. He went on to study music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he focused on choral conducting. After completing his studies, Bohlin began his career as a conductor and choral director. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative and dynamic approach to choral music, and he was soon in demand as a guest conductor and clinician around the world. One of the highlights of Bohlin's early career was his appointment as the conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus in 2007. Under his leadership, the chorus quickly became one of the most respected and admired in the country, and they have performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. Bohlin's work with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. He has worked with the Swedish Radio Choir, the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, and the San Francisco Girls Chorus, among others. One of the most notable performances of Bohlin's career was his conducting of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus in Mahler's Symphony No. 8, also known as the "Symphony of a Thousand." The performance, which took place in 2018, featured over 800 performers and was hailed as a triumph by critics and audiences alike. Bohlin's innovative approach to choral music has also led him to collaborate with a wide range of artists and musicians from other genres. He has worked with jazz pianist Chick Corea, singer-songwriter Joan Baez, and the rock band Metallica, among others.
