Artist Info
Susanne Kessel is a renowned classical pianist and composer who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. Born in 1966 in Bonn, Germany, Kessel began playing the piano at the age of six and showed exceptional talent from an early age. She received her first piano lessons from her mother, who was also a pianist, and later studied under renowned pianists such as Vitaly Margulis, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, and Paul Badura-Skoda. Kessel's musical career began to take shape in the 1980s when she won several national and international piano competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Senigallia, Italy, and the International Piano Competition in Porto, Portugal. These early successes paved the way for Kessel to perform in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. Throughout her career, Kessel has been known for her exceptional musicianship and her ability to interpret a wide range of musical styles. She has performed works by some of the greatest composers in history, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann, and has also championed the works of contemporary composers such as John Cage, Philip Glass, and Arvo Pärt. In addition to her work as a performer, Kessel is also an accomplished composer. She has written numerous works for solo piano, chamber ensembles, and orchestra, and her compositions have been performed by some of the world's leading musicians. One of the highlights of Kessel's career came in 2013 when she embarked on a unique project called "250 Piano Pieces for Beethoven." The project involved commissioning 250 composers from around the world to write short piano pieces inspired by Beethoven's music. Kessel then performed all 250 pieces in a series of concerts that took place over several years. The project was a huge success and received widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics. Kessel's dedication to promoting contemporary music has also led her to collaborate with a number of other musicians and artists. She has worked with dancers, visual artists, and poets to create multimedia performances that combine music with other art forms. In recognition of her contributions to the world of music, Kessel has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2006, she was awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit for her work as a musician and cultural ambassador. She has also been awarded the Beethoven Medal, the Robert Schumann Prize, and the Art Prize of the City of Bonn. Despite her many achievements, Kessel remains committed to her work as a musician and composer. She continues to perform and record music, and is always looking for new ways to push the boundaries of classical music. Her passion for music and her dedication to promoting the works of contemporary composers have made her a beloved figure in the world of classical music, and her legacy is sure to endure for many years to come.More....
