Petras Geniušas is a renowned classical pianist from Lithuania, known for his virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born on August 22, 1978, in Vilnius, Lithuania, Geniušas grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Petras Geniušas Sr., was a well-known pianist and professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and his mother, Rasa Geniušienė, was a violinist and professor at the same institution. Geniušas began playing the piano at the age of five, under the guidance of his father. He showed exceptional talent from an early age, and by the time he was ten, he had already won several national and international competitions. In 1990, he was awarded first prize at the International Young Pianists Competition in Kaunas, Lithuania, and in 1991, he won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Vilnius. In 1992, Geniušas moved to Moscow to study at the Central Music School, where he studied under the renowned pianist and pedagogue, Vera Gornostaeva. He continued his studies at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance. During his time in Moscow, Geniušas won several prestigious competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Memory of Emil Gilels in Odessa, Ukraine, and the International Piano Competition in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz in Kiev, Ukraine. After completing his studies in Moscow, Geniušas moved to Germany, where he continued to develop his career as a concert pianist. He has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, among others. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yuri Temirkanov, and Mikhail Pletnev. Geniušas has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and the Moscow Conservatory Great Hall. He has also been a regular performer at many international music festivals, including the Verbier Festival, the Ravinia Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Salzburg Festival. In addition to his career as a concert pianist, Geniušas is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and the Royal College of Music in London. He has also served as a jury member for many international piano competitions, including the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Geniušas has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2004, he was awarded the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts, the highest cultural award in Lithuania. In 2006, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Lithuania, one of the country's highest honors. In 2010, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his contribution to the arts in Australia.
