Voces Intimae String Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2014 in Toronto, Canada. The quartet is made up of four members: Rebecca MacLeod (violin), Sheila Jaffé (violin), Caitlin Boyle (viola), and Rory McLeod (cello). The ensemble has gained recognition for their dynamic performances and unique interpretations of classical music. The founding members of Voces Intimae String Quartet, Rebecca MacLeod and Sheila Jaffé, met while studying at the Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began performing together as a duo. In 2014, they decided to expand their ensemble and invited Caitlin Boyle and Rory McLeod to join them, forming the Voces Intimae String Quartet. The quartet's name, Voces Intimae, is Latin for "intimate voices." This name reflects the ensemble's focus on creating a close connection between the musicians and their audience. The quartet strives to create a sense of intimacy and emotional depth in their performances, drawing listeners into the music and allowing them to experience it on a deeper level. Since their founding, Voces Intimae String Quartet has performed at numerous venues and festivals throughout Canada and the United States. They have been praised for their technical skill and emotional depth, and have been described as "a quartet to watch" by The WholeNote magazine. One of the quartet's most notable performances was their debut at the Toronto Summer Music Festival in 2015. They performed a program of works by Haydn, Beethoven, and Brahms, showcasing their ability to interpret a wide range of classical music styles. The performance was met with critical acclaim, with The Globe and Mail describing it as "a stunning debut." In 2016, Voces Intimae String Quartet was awarded the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition Fellowship. This award provided the quartet with the opportunity to study with some of the world's leading chamber musicians and to perform at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta, Canada. The quartet has also been recognized for their commitment to contemporary music. They have premiered works by Canadian composers such as Andrew Staniland and Omar Daniel, and have collaborated with other contemporary musicians such as pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico. In addition to their performances, Voces Intimae String Quartet is also committed to music education. They have worked with students of all ages, from elementary school to university level, and have led workshops and masterclasses on chamber music and string technique.
