Born on May 22, 1979, in Trondheim, Norway, Moen grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. She studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and later at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Moen's career began to take off in the early 2000s when she won several prestigious singing competitions, including the Queen Sonja International Music Competition in Oslo in 2001 and the Belvedere International Singing Competition in Vienna in 2002. These victories brought her to the attention of opera companies and concert halls around the world, and she soon began to receive invitations to perform in major productions and concerts. One of Moen's early breakthroughs came in 2004 when she made her debut at the Norwegian National Opera in the role of Pamina in Mozart's "The Magic Flute."
