Anita began her music education at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where she studied under the tutelage of Aino Ackté, a famous Finnish soprano. She later continued her studies in Vienna, Austria, where she studied with the renowned vocal coach, Erik Werba. In 1960, Anita made her debut as a soloist with the Finnish National Opera, where she performed the role of Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème. Her performance was well-received, and it marked the beginning of her successful career as a classical music artist. Throughout her career, Anita performed in numerous operas, oratorios, and concerts in Finland and abroad. She was known for her powerful and expressive voice, which captivated audiences and critics alike. Her repertoire included works by Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, and Strauss, among others. One of the highlights of Anita's career was her performance in the world premiere of Aulis Sallinen's opera, Ratsumies (The Horseman), in 1975. The opera was a huge success, and Anita's performance was praised for its emotional depth and intensity. Anita also received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1972, she was awarded the Pro Finlandia medal, which is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a Finnish citizen.
