Amihai Grosz is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as one of the most talented violists of his generation. Born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1979, Grosz began his musical journey at a young age, showing a natural talent for the viola. He began his studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where he was taught by Haim Taub, and later went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin with Tabea Zimmermann. Grosz's talent was quickly recognized, and he began to receive invitations to perform with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras. In 2000, he was appointed principal violist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held for over a decade. During his time with the orchestra, Grosz became known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he performed. One of the highlights of Grosz's career with the Berlin Philharmonic was his performance of the solo viola part in Richard Strauss's "Don Quixote" under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The performance was widely praised for Grosz's sensitive and nuanced playing, and it cemented his reputation as one of the world's leading violists. In addition to his work with the Berlin Philharmonic, Grosz has also performed as a soloist with many other orchestras around the world. He has collaborated with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Andris Nelsons, and has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Grosz's repertoire is wide-ranging, and he is equally at home performing works from the classical and romantic periods as he is with contemporary music. He has premiered works by composers such as Matthias Pintscher and Jörg Widmann, and has worked closely with many other contemporary composers to develop new works for the viola. In addition to his work as a performer, Grosz is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin. He is known for his patient and supportive teaching style, and for his ability to inspire his students to reach their full potential. Grosz's talent and dedication have been recognized with many awards and honors over the course of his career. In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, which recognizes outstanding young musicians and provides them with financial support to further their careers. He has also been awarded the Leonard Bernstein Award, the Prix Thierry Scherz, and the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg Prize. Despite his many accomplishments, Grosz remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, and is always looking for new ways to push the boundaries of what is possible on the viola. His passion for music and his commitment to excellence have made him one of the most respected and admired musicians of his generation, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of musicians for years to come.
