Voces Intimae is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 in Toronto, Canada. The ensemble is known for its unique approach to classical music, which combines traditional repertoire with contemporary works and improvisation. The founding members of Voces Intimae were violinist Rezan Onen-Lapointe, cellist Sybil Shanahan, and pianist Emily Rho. The three musicians had previously performed together in various chamber music groups and decided to form their own ensemble to explore their shared musical interests. The name "Voces Intimae" is Latin for "intimate voices," which reflects the ensemble's focus on creating a close connection between the performers and the audience. The group's mission is to bring classical music to a wider audience by presenting it in a fresh and engaging way. Since its founding, Voces Intimae has performed at numerous venues across Canada and the United States, including the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The ensemble has also been featured on CBC Radio and has collaborated with a variety of other musicians and artists. One of the highlights of Voces Intimae's career was their performance at the 2012 Ottawa Chamberfest, where they presented a program of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and contemporary composer John Adams. The ensemble received critical acclaim for their performance, with reviewers praising their technical skill and emotional depth. In addition to their live performances, Voces Intimae has also released several recordings, including their debut album "Intimate Voices" in 2013. The album features works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann, as well as a contemporary piece by Canadian composer Andrew Staniland. Voces Intimae has received numerous awards and accolades for their work, including the 2011 Galaxie Rising Star Award from the Ottawa Chamberfest and the 2013 Emerging Artist Award from the Ontario Arts Council.
