Haydn Trio Eisenstadt is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1992 in Eisenstadt, Austria. The ensemble is named after the famous composer Joseph Haydn, who spent much of his life in Eisenstadt and served as the court musician for the Esterházy family. The founding members of the Haydn Trio Eisenstadt were Verena Stourzh (piano), Harald Kosik (violin), and Hannes Gradwohl (cello). All three musicians were graduates of the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts and had extensive experience performing as soloists and chamber musicians. From the beginning, the Haydn Trio Eisenstadt focused on performing the works of Joseph Haydn, as well as other classical composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for their dynamic and expressive performances, which were characterized by their attention to detail and their ability to bring out the nuances of the music. Over the years, the Haydn Trio Eisenstadt has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Musikverein, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including the violinist Midori and the pianist András Schiff. One of the highlights of the Haydn Trio Eisenstadt's career was their performance at the 2009 Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt, which celebrated the 200th anniversary of Haydn's death. The ensemble performed a series of concerts that featured some of Haydn's most beloved works, including his Piano Trio in G Major and his String Quartet in C Major. In addition to their performances, the Haydn Trio Eisenstadt has also received numerous awards and accolades for their recordings. Their recording of Haydn's Piano Trios was awarded the Diapason d'Or in 2003, and their recording of Beethoven's Piano Trios was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2010. Despite changes in personnel over the years, the Haydn Trio Eisenstadt has remained committed to their mission of bringing the music of Joseph Haydn and other classical composers to audiences around the world. Today, the ensemble is led by pianist Stefan Mendl, who joined the group in 2011, and includes violinist Daniel Auner and cellist Franz Ortner. In recent years, the Haydn Trio Eisenstadt has continued to perform and record extensively, with a particular focus on the music of Haydn and his contemporaries. Their most recent recording, released in 2020, features the Piano Trios of Johann Nepomuk Hummel. Overall, the Haydn Trio Eisenstadt has established itself as one of the premier classical music ensembles in the world, known for their virtuosic performances and their dedication to the music of Joseph Haydn and other classical composers.
