From a young age, Herrmann showed a natural talent for music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Herrmann began his musical education at the age of five, studying piano with his mother. He quickly progressed and began performing in public at the age of seven. At the age of ten, he started studying the violin, and by the age of twelve, he had already won several local competitions. In 1998, Herrmann was accepted into the prestigious Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where he studied under the renowned violinist and pedagogue, Ulf Wallin. During his time at the conservatory, Herrmann won several awards and competitions, including the first prize at the International Violin Competition in Kloster Schöntal in 2001. After completing his studies at the conservatory, Herrmann continued his education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Itzhak Perlman. During his time at Juilliard, Herrmann won several awards, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition in 2005. Herrmann made his professional debut in 2006, performing with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The performance was a huge success, and Herrmann received critical acclaim for his virtuosic playing and musicality. Since then, Herrmann has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Riccardo Muti. In addition to his performances as a soloist, Herrmann is also an avid chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. Herrmann's recordings have received critical acclaim and have won several awards, including the Gramophone Award for Best Chamber Music Recording in 2010. His recording of the complete Beethoven violin sonatas with pianist Martha Argerich is considered one of the definitive recordings of the repertoire. Herrmann is also a dedicated teacher and has given masterclasses at many of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Conservatoire de Paris. Throughout his career, Herrmann has been recognized for his musical achievements. He has received several awards, including the Order of Merit of Berlin in 2012 and the Brahms Prize in 2015.
