Born on May 5, 1977, in Budapest, Hungary, Bende showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He went on to study at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he received his degree in piano performance. After completing his studies, Bende began his career as a pianist, performing in concerts and competitions throughout Europe. He quickly gained recognition for his technical skill and musicality, and in 2001, he won the prestigious International Piano Competition in Rome. In addition to his work as a pianist, Bende also began conducting orchestras and choirs. He studied conducting with renowned conductors such as János Fürst and Tamás Vásáry, and in 2004, he founded the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, which he still conducts today. Bende's career as a composer began in 2006, when he was commissioned to write a piece for the Hungarian State Opera. Since then, he has written numerous works for orchestra, choir, and chamber ensembles, and his music has been performed by orchestras and choirs around the world. One of the highlights of Bende's career as a conductor was his performance with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra at the 2012 BBC Proms in London. The orchestra received critical acclaim for their performance of works by Bartók, Kodály, and Liszt, and Bende was praised for his "fiery and passionate" conducting. Bende has also received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2010, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary for his contributions to Hungarian culture. He has also been recognized for his work as a composer, winning the Artisjus Prize for his composition "Missa Brevis" in 2014.
