He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known violinist. Moldvai began playing the violin at a young age and showed great promise as a musician. Moldvai's talent was recognized early on, and he was accepted into the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest at the age of 14. He studied under some of the most renowned violinists of the time, including Zoltan Szekely and Sandor Vegh. Moldvai's dedication to his craft was evident from a young age, and he spent countless hours practicing and perfecting his technique. Moldvai's career as a professional musician began in the early 1970s when he joined the Hungarian State Orchestra. He quickly rose through the ranks and became the orchestra's concertmaster in 1975. One of Moldvai's most memorable performances was his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 1978.
