Role:EnsembleThe Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with its exceptional performances for over 50 years. Founded in 1964 by Marc Mostovoy, the orchestra has become a staple of the Philadelphia music scene, known for its innovative programming and exceptional musicianship. The ensemble's founding was inspired by Mostovoy's desire to create a chamber orchestra that would showcase the talents of Philadelphia's finest musicians. He envisioned an ensemble that would be dedicated to performing a wide range of classical music, from Baroque to contemporary, and that would be committed to excellence in every aspect of its work. Over the years, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra has attracted some of the most talented musicians in the region, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in orchestras around the world. The ensemble's current members include some of the most accomplished musicians in the Philadelphia area, including concertmaster Luigi Mazzocchi, principal cellist Lloyd Smith, and principal oboist Richard Woodhams. One of the highlights of the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra's history was its performance at the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration in Philadelphia. The orchestra was chosen to perform at the event, which was attended by President Gerald Ford and other dignitaries, and its performance was widely praised for its exceptional musicianship and patriotic spirit. In addition to its performance at the Bicentennial Celebration, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra has been recognized for its outstanding performances at a number of other prestigious events and venues. The ensemble has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Lincoln Center in New York City, and the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, among others. The Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors over the years. In 1982, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, in recognition of its commitment to performing a wide range of classical music. The orchestra has also been recognized for its educational outreach programs, which have brought classical music to thousands of students in the Philadelphia area. Despite its many accomplishments, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra remains committed to its founding principles of excellence and innovation. The ensemble continues to push the boundaries of classical music, exploring new repertoire and collaborating with some of the most exciting musicians and composers of our time. With its exceptional musicianship and unwavering dedication to excellence, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra is sure to remain a beloved fixture of the Philadelphia music scene for many years to come.More....
