The Euclid Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world with their exceptional performances since their founding in 1998. The quartet is composed of violinists Jameson Cooper and Jacob Murphy, violist Luis Enrique Vargas, and cellist Jacqueline Choi. The ensemble has been praised for their technical precision, musicality, and ability to connect with their audiences. The Euclid Quartet was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, by violinist Jameson Cooper and cellist Si-Yan Darren Li. The two musicians met while studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music and quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music. They were soon joined by violinist Brendan Shea and violist Melissa Reardon, and the quartet began performing together in 1998. Over the years, the Euclid Quartet has undergone several personnel changes. In 2001, Brendan Shea left the group and was replaced by violinist Jacob Murphy. In 2008, Melissa Reardon left the quartet and was replaced by violist Luis Enrique Vargas. The current lineup of the Euclid Quartet has been performing together since 2012 and has received critical acclaim for their performances. The Euclid Quartet has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. They have also been featured at numerous music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, the Banff Centre, and the Festival Internacional Cervantino. One of the highlights of the Euclid Quartet's career was their performance at the 2007 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan. The quartet was awarded first prize in the string quartet category, as well as the special prize for the best performance of a contemporary work. This was a significant achievement for the ensemble, as the competition is one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the world. In addition to their success at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, the Euclid Quartet has received numerous other awards and accolades throughout their career. They were awarded the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award in 2011, which is given to young string quartets that show exceptional promise. They have also been awarded the Grand Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the First Prize at the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition. The Euclid Quartet is known for their commitment to contemporary music and has commissioned and premiered works by a number of prominent composers, including Jennifer Higdon, Dan Visconti, and David Ludwig. They have also recorded several albums, including their debut album, "Euclid Quartet," which features works by Beethoven, Shostakovich, and Ravel. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Euclid Quartet is also committed to music education. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools around the world, including the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the University of Michigan, and the Cleveland Institute of Music.
