Artist Info
Lenneke Ruiten is a Dutch soprano who has established herself as one of the most sought-after classical music artists of her generation. Born on October 23, 1979, in the city of Enschede, Netherlands, Ruiten showed an early interest in music and began singing in choirs at a young age. She later studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in vocal performance. Ruiten's career as a professional singer began in 2002 when she won the Christina Deutekom Concours, a prestigious competition for young opera singers in the Netherlands. This victory led to her debut as Pamina in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam. Her performance was widely praised, and she quickly became known for her clear, bright voice and expressive stage presence. Over the next few years, Ruiten continued to build her reputation as a rising star in the world of classical music. She performed in a variety of operas, including "La Traviata," "Don Giovanni," and "The Marriage of Figaro," and collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras in Europe. In 2007, she was awarded the prestigious Dutch Music Prize, which is given to the most promising young musicians in the Netherlands. One of the highlights of Ruiten's career came in 2010 when she was invited to perform at the Salzburg Festival, one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world. She sang the role of Ilia in Mozart's "Idomeneo" under the baton of conductor Marc Minkowski, and her performance was widely acclaimed. The following year, she made her debut at the Royal Opera House in London, where she sang the role of Pamina in "The Magic Flute." Since then, Ruiten has continued to perform in major opera houses and concert halls around the world. She has worked with conductors such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe, and Riccardo Chailly, and has performed with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. In 2016, she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she sang the role of Sophie in Richard Strauss's "Der Rosenkavalier." Throughout her career, Ruiten has received numerous awards and accolades for her performances. In addition to the Dutch Music Prize, she has been awarded the ECHO Klassik Award, the Edison Classical Music Award, and the Bavarian State Opera Prize. She has also been nominated for a Grammy Award for her recording of Mozart's "Requiem" with the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition to her work as an opera singer, Ruiten is also a passionate advocate for contemporary music. She has premiered works by composers such as Wolfgang Rihm, Peter Eötvös, and Michel van der Aa, and has collaborated with contemporary music ensembles such as the Asko|Schönberg Ensemble and the Ensemble Modern. Despite her many accomplishments, Ruiten remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to work tirelessly to perfect her technique and interpretation, and is always seeking new challenges and opportunities to grow as an artist. With her talent, passion, and dedication, she is sure to remain one of the most beloved and respected classical music artists of her generation for many years to come.More....
