She was born on May 12, 1950, in Naples, Italy, to a family of musicians. Her father was a pianist, and her mother was a singer. From a young age, Dora showed a keen interest in music and began taking piano lessons at the age of five. Dora's talent was evident from the beginning, and she quickly became a prodigy. She won her first piano competition at the age of eight and went on to win several more throughout her childhood. Her parents recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Dora continued her musical education at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples, where she studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and composer, Aldo Ciccolini. She graduated with honors and went on to study at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 1972, Dora made her debut as a soloist with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21. Her performance was met with critical acclaim, and she quickly gained recognition as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. Over the next few years, Dora performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, collaborating with some of the world's most renowned orchestras and conductors. She was particularly known for her interpretations of the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. In 1978, Dora won the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, which brought her international fame and recognition. The competition, held every four years in Fort Worth, Texas, is one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world and has launched the careers of many great pianists. Dora's win at the Van Cliburn Competition opened up new opportunities for her, and she was invited to perform at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Throughout her career, Dora recorded extensively, releasing over 20 albums of solo and chamber music. Her recordings were highly acclaimed and won several awards, including the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or.
