The founding members of the quartet were violinists Lubomir Havlak and Libor Kašpar, violist Zbyněk Paďourek, and cellist Jitka Vlašánková. The quartet's original lineup remained intact until 1990 when Jitka Vlašánková was replaced by cellist Jan Jisa. They won their first major award in 1978 when they were awarded the first prize at the International String Quartet Competition in Evian, France.
