Elizabeth Hainen is a renowned classical harpist who has captivated audiences around the world with her virtuosic performances and innovative approach to the instrument. Born in Delaware in 1960, Hainen began playing the harp at the age of nine and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She went on to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Juilliard School, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in harp performance. Hainen's career as a professional musician began in the early 1980s, when she joined the New York Philharmonic as their principal harpist. She held this position for over a decade, during which time she also performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2007, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. In recent years, Hainen has focused on expanding the repertoire for the harp by commissioning new works and transcribing existing pieces for the instrument.
