Quartetto Gelato is a Canadian classical music group that was formed in 1991. The group is known for its unique blend of classical music, world music, and jazz. The group consists of four members: Peter De Sotto (tenor and violin), Alexander Sevastian (accordion and piano), Colin Maier (oboe and clarinet), and Carina Reeves (cello). The group was founded by Peter De Sotto, who had previously performed with the Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet of Canada. De Sotto wanted to create a group that would combine classical music with other genres, such as jazz and world music. He recruited Alexander Sevastian, Colin Maier, and Carina Reeves to join him in this venture. Quartetto Gelato's first performance was in 1992 at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto. The group's unique sound and energetic performances quickly gained them a following. They began touring extensively, performing in Canada, the United States, and Europe. In 1994, Quartetto Gelato released their first album, Quartetto Gelato. The album featured a mix of classical music, world music, and jazz. In 2000, Quartetto Gelato won a Juno Award for Best Classical Album for their album Neapolitan Café. The album featured a mix of classical music and traditional Neapolitan songs. It was a commercial success and helped to further establish the group's reputation. In 2002, Quartetto Gelato released their album Rustic Chivalry. The album featured a mix of classical music and traditional folk songs from around the world. In 2005, Quartetto Gelato released their album Quartetto Gelato Travels the Orient Express.
