Artist Info
Role:EnsembleThe Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor, also known as the Vienna State Opera Chorus, is a world-renowned classical music ensemble based in Vienna, Austria. The choir was founded in 1923 and has since become one of the most prestigious and respected choral groups in the world. The choir was originally formed as a subsidiary of the Vienna State Opera, with the aim of providing a high-quality chorus for the opera company's productions. Over the years, the choir has expanded its repertoire to include a wide range of classical music, including oratorios, cantatas, and symphonies. One of the highlights of the choir's early years was its performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in 1932, conducted by the legendary Arturo Toscanini. The performance was a huge success and helped to establish the choir's reputation as one of the finest in the world. In the years that followed, the choir continued to perform at the Vienna State Opera and also began to tour internationally. One of the choir's most notable performances was at the Salzburg Festival in 1950, where they performed Mozart's Requiem under the baton of Herbert von Karajan. The choir has also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors and orchestras, including Leonard Bernstein, Claudio Abbado, and Riccardo Muti. In 1987, the choir was invited to perform at the inauguration of the Vienna Philharmonic's new concert hall, the Musikverein. In addition to its performances, the choir has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1966, the choir was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, and in 1993, they were awarded the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria. Today, the Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor continues to be one of the most respected and sought-after choral groups in the world. They perform regularly at the Vienna State Opera and also tour internationally, delighting audiences with their beautiful and powerful performances of classical music.More....
