Birth:1980 in St. Petersburg, RussiaOlga Peretyatko is a Russian-born soprano who has established herself as one of the leading classical music artists of her generation. Born on May 21, 1980, in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Peretyatko showed an early interest in music and began studying piano at the age of six. She later switched to voice and attended the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg, where she studied with Tamara Novichenko. Peretyatko's talent was quickly recognized, and she won several prestigious competitions early in her career. In 2001, she won the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, Austria, which launched her international career. She went on to win several other competitions, including the International Competition for Opera Singers in Dresden, Germany, and the International Competition for Young Opera Singers in Moscow, Russia. Peretyatko made her professional debut in 2005 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, where she sang the role of the Queen of the Night in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." She quickly gained a reputation as a versatile and dynamic performer, and her career took off. She has since performed at many of the world's leading opera houses and concert halls, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris Opera, the Vienna State Opera, and the Berlin State Opera. Peretyatko's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, and many others. She is particularly known for her interpretations of bel canto roles, such as Lucia in Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor" and Elvira in Bellini's "I Puritani." She has also performed in contemporary operas, including the world premiere of Giya Kancheli's "Exil" at the Hamburg State Opera in 2014. Peretyatko has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2012, she was named a "Rising Star" by the European Concert Hall Organization, which led to a series of concerts at major concert halls throughout Europe. One of Peretyatko's most notable performances was her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2014, where she sang the role of Gilda in Verdi's "Rigoletto." Her performance was widely praised by critics, who noted her "crystalline tone" and "dazzling coloratura." She has since returned to the Met to sing the roles of Adina in Donizetti's "L'elisir d'amore" and Rosina in Rossini's "Il barbiere di Siviglia." Peretyatko is also a frequent performer in concert halls around the world.
