Jirí Stivín is a renowned Czech musician who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on September 23, 1942, in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Stivín grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Jirí Stivín Sr., was a well-known jazz musician, and his mother, Jarmila Stivínová, was a classical pianist. Stivín's parents played a significant role in shaping his musical career, and he started playing the flute at a young age. Stivín's musical journey began when he joined the Prague Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of Professor Václav Zilka. The Jazz Q band released several albums, including "Coniunctio," "Elegie," and "Pozorovatelna." In addition to his work with the Jazz Q band, Stivín also collaborated with other musicians and bands. He played with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, and the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra. Stivín also collaborated with jazz musicians such as George Mraz, Emil Viklický, and Karel Ruzicka. In 1981, he was awarded the Czechoslovak State Prize for his contributions to music. He also received the Medal of Merit from the Czech Republic in 2002 and the Medal of Merit from the Ministry of Culture in 2012. Stivín's musical career has been marked by several notable performances. In 1983, he performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, where he played with the Jazz Q band.
