Nicholas Angelich is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with his virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born on April 5, 1970, in the United States, Angelich grew up in a family of musicians and began playing the piano at a young age. His father was a violinist and his mother was a pianist, so music was always a part of his life. Angelich's talent was evident from an early age, and he began studying with renowned pianists such as Aldo Ciccolini and Yvonne Loriod. He also attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied with Michel Beroff and Marie-Francoise Bucquet. Angelich's career took off in the early 2000s, when he won several major international piano competitions, including the International Piano Competition of Vendome in 1994, the International Piano Competition of Epinal in 1996, and the International Piano Competition of Bremen in 1999. These victories helped to establish him as one of the most promising young pianists of his generation. Since then, Angelich has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with some of the most distinguished conductors of our time, including Sir Colin Davis, Riccardo Chailly, and Myung-Whun Chung. One of Angelich's most memorable performances was his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2003, where he played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The performance was widely praised for its sensitivity and depth, and it helped to cement Angelich's reputation as a master interpreter of Beethoven's music. Angelich is also known for his recordings, which have received critical acclaim and numerous awards. His recording of Brahms' Piano Concertos with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and Paavo Järvi won the Diapason d'Or de l'Année in 2008, and his recording of Liszt's Piano Concertos with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège and Christian Arming won the Choc de Classica in 2011. In addition to his performances and recordings, Angelich is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught masterclasses at institutions such as the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. He is also a member of the faculty at the International Piano Academy Lake Como in Italy, where he works with young pianists from around the world. Throughout his career, Angelich has remained committed to exploring the depths of the piano repertoire and bringing new insights to familiar works. His performances are marked by a combination of technical brilliance and emotional depth, and he has been praised for his ability to connect with audiences on a profound level. In recognition of his contributions to the world of classical music, Angelich has received numerous awards and honors. In 2013, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government, and in 2017 he was awarded the Victoire de la Musique Classique for Instrumental Soloist of the Year. Today, Nicholas Angelich continues to perform and record, bringing his unique perspective and artistry to audiences around the world. His dedication to the piano and to the music he loves has made him one of the most respected and admired musicians of his generation.
