Birth:May 7, 1951 in Montreal, Quebec, CanadaGenre:ConcertoKeyboardJanina Fialkowska is a renowned classical pianist known for her virtuosic performances and interpretations of the works of Chopin and other Romantic composers. Born on May 7, 1951, in Montreal, Canada, Fialkowska began playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Fialkowska's parents were both musicians, and her mother was her first piano teacher. She later studied with Yvonne Hubert at the École de musique Vincent-d'Indy in Montreal and with Sascha Gorodnitzki at the Juilliard School in New York. Fialkowska's early career was marked by numerous awards and accolades, including first prize at the CBC Talent Festival in 1963 and the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1974. Fialkowska's breakthrough performance came in 1974 when she made her debut with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Charles Dutoit. She quickly established herself as one of the leading pianists of her generation, performing with major orchestras and conductors around the world. Some of her most notable performances include her debut with the New York Philharmonic in 1975, her performance of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1985, and her performance of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1992. Fialkowska's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Liszt, Debussy, and many others. However, she is perhaps best known for her interpretations of Chopin's music, which she has been performing and recording for over four decades. Fialkowska's recordings of Chopin's complete Nocturnes and Impromptus have been widely praised for their sensitivity and technical brilliance. In addition to her performing career, Fialkowska is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught at the University of Ottawa and the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, and has given masterclasses around the world. She is known for her warm and engaging teaching style, and for her ability to inspire and encourage young musicians. Fialkowska's career has been marked by numerous awards and honors. In 1992, she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest civilian honors. She has also received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award, the Prix Opus, and the Virginia Parker Prize, among others. In 2012, she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and underwent surgery and chemotherapy. However, she continued to perform throughout her treatment and has since made a full recovery. Today, Fialkowska continues to perform and record, and remains one of the most respected and beloved pianists of her generation. Her passion for music and her dedication to her craft have inspired countless musicians and audiences around the world, and her legacy as a performer and teacher will continue to be felt for generations to come.More....
